Holzwickede or Berlin. If you want to experience the RAL 1023 colour in its full splendour live, you should travel to one of these two cities. In Berlin you can admire the colour described as “traffic yellow” on almost every corner. In their corporate design, Berlin’s public transportation companies have defined this shade as the base colour for the main surfaces of their vehicles or had it defined by an advertising agency. Thus, most of Berlin’s buses, trains and suburban and subway trains are painted Slate grey on the floor, white on the roofs and Traffic yellow on the side walls. A strong, highly visible colour that was already one of the RAL Classic colours that the German RAL organisation decided on in 1927.

And why Holzwickede? RAL 1023 is also the colour in which the German first division soccer team Borussia Dortmund BVB presented itself – until a corporate design revision a few years ago. Holger Braukmann’s home did not undergo that revision. Holger Braukmann’s home in Holzwickede still shines in the finest RAL 1023, because this is how the dedicated BVB fan painted it in 2011 with 30 litres of specially mixed acrylic facade paint.
